BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados women’s basketball (7-18, 6-15 SAC) team split their season series with Mars Hill (8-17, 7-14 SAC) after falling 78-75 on Wednesday night in Boshamer Gymnasium.
Chelsea Turner tied the Brevard College single-season record for three-point field goals with five threes on the evening, hitting her 49th of the season with 1:30 left in the game to tie the record set by Holli Flippo (2008-2009 and 2009-2010). The freshman finished with 15 points, and is currently ranked second in the SAC with 45 three-pointers in league play.
Brevard was led in scoring by Shelby Wolfe's 20 points while teammate Madison Lenox added 15 points.
Mars Hill went on a five-point run to begin the second half to take an 11-point lead over the Tornados. The Lions Autumn Ward put up a three-point shot at the 8:23 mark that Tornados Hadara Bannister rebounded and passed up to Shelby Wolfe for the jumper. BC came within one point after the play only to have Mars Hill's Paige Chavis answer with three points.
The Lions led Brevard by six points with 25 seconds remaining in the game after Ansley Ricker made both baskets while visiting the free throw line. Brevard was unable to cut their deficit for the win.
Brevard will celebrate their seniors during their last regular season and conference home game against Wingate on Saturday, March 1. Tip-off will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium.
