SPARTANBURG, S.C.-The Brevard College softball team lost their opening game of the Mid-South Classic softball tournament 10-2 to Georgia College on Friday evening.
Georgia College scored eight runs in the 4th inning to turn a 2-1 lead into a 10-1 advantage, essentially putting the game out of reach for BC. Brevard got two runs back with no outs in the 5th on three hits and a Georgia College error before running into three straight outs to end the game.
The Tornados collected eight hits in the game but Georgia College starter Faith Flanders (W, 5-1) was able to limit the Tornados to three runs (one earned) in the five-inning complete game. Flanders stranded a runner in scoring position in the 1st and 5th, while wiggling out of a bases-loaded jam in the 4th.
The Bobcats posted two runs in the top of the 1st against Casey Whitaker (L, 2-1) on a Flander two-run homer before BC answered with a run in the home half of the 1st. Kinny Davis started the inning with a single and later scored on Whitaker’s infield single.
The Tornados resume action in the Mid-South Classic tomorrow at noon as they square off with Columbus State before a nightcap with Lander at 4 p.m.
