Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College athletics department along with head volleyball coach Brenda Skeffington are pleased to announce that Bethany Anne Stevenson and Jamie Atkinson have each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Brevard College and play volleyball for the Tornados beginning in the 2009-10 season.
Stevenson, hailing from Prattville, Ala., comes in as a setter. The 5-8 performer was ranked fourth on the National MaxPreps Aces list with 214 this past year and is in the AHSAA record book for aces in the season and ended her high school career with 529. In her senior campaign under Jenny Rhodes and Lindsay Ellis at Prattville High School, Stevenson recorded 798 assists to go with 176 digs and 23 blocks. For her career, Stevenson was named to the All Metro First team in 2006 and 2007 and was on the All-State list in 2007.
Academically, Stevenson was an honors student and was on the National Honor Roll, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society.
Atkinson, a 6-0 right side hitter, comes to Brevard from Spartanburg, S.C. from Broome High School. Under head coach Pam Peeler, Atkinson was an All-Region and an All-State player for three years, as well being the Region 2-AA Player of the Year for three years. Atkinson was recently named MVP in the SC State All-State 1A-2A match at Lander University.
The Broome senior class in which Atkinson is a part of, has been a part of three straight Region II-2A championships and one upper state title team. It will also be their third straight appearance in the upper state finals.
Atkinson also played basketball and softball for the Centurions, receiving the Best Defense award in basketball.
Brevard posted a 14-17 record in 2008, making post-season play in their first year in the South Atlantic Conference.
