BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard College(7-19, 6-16 SAC) women’s basketball was unable to send off senior Chezney McJunkin with a win after losing to Wingate University (21-5, 17-5 SAC) 69-46 on Saturday, March 1st at Boshamer Gymnasium.
Brevard couldn’t bounce back off a 17-0 run in the first eight minutes of the first half until Katie Williams placed in a three point basket to break the Bulldogs run at the 12:37 mark. The Tornados weren’t able to place more points on the board until Shelby Wolfe contributed two free throws making the score 21-5 at the 7:57 mark.
Beginning the second half down by 22 points, Shelby Wolfe found herself at the free throw line again at the 19:45 mark. She placed in two easy points for Brevard cutting the deficit to 20 points.
Senior, Chezney McLunkin made a three-point basket at the 16:15 mark of the second half finishing the game with seven total points.
Wingate ran past the Tornados reaching a game high 29 point difference with 2:23 left in the game. Brevard tried to close the gap with a layup from Lauren Ward at the buzzer.
Kayla Harris led the Wingate Bulldogs to the win with 18 total points while contributing eight defensive rebounds.
The Tornados finished their season with six South Atlantic Conference wins over Tusculum, Catawba, Anderson, Mars Hill and Queens while finishing the season 7-19 overall.
Freshman, Madison Lenox led the Tornados with the highest points per game average of 13.7 while teammate Katie Williams came in close behind at 13.0.
Brevard finished the season with the highest free throw percentage of 73.2 with Newberry trailing after at 73.1 percent.
