SALISBURY, N.C.- Brevard College ( 0-3, 0-1 SAC) women’s lacrosse lost 18-3 in their first South Atlantic Conference game at Catawba College (2-2, 1-0 SAC) on March 1st at Shuford Stadium.
Catawba kept the Tornados scoreless as they went on a nine goal run until the 7:56 mark in the first half. Julia Gasston received the ball off of Emily Medvedoff’s draw control for a quick goal.
Gasston had another scoring opportunity in a free position shot at 6:01 after being fouled in the eight meter. She snuck the ball past goalie Bethany Davis on the whistle to cut the deficit to eight goals going into the second half.
Catawba continued to shut Brevard out in the second half as they went on a seven goal run. Meredith Jones and Kim McConnery contributed four goals each for the Indians.
Emily Medvedeff and Gasston split draw control for the Tornados with two each. Medvedeff also led BC with six groundballs.
Brevard was able to put another goal on the scoreboard after Catawba’s Kelsey Perusse received a yellow card. The Tornados cleared the ball up field to Julia for the goal in the last 25 seconds of play.
Brevard will travel to Erskine in a non-conference game on Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m.
