SPARTANBURG, S.C.-The Brevard College softball team lost a pair of tight games on the final day of the Mid-South Classic, dropping 6-4 decisions to Flagler and North Georgia.
Game 1: Flagler 6, Brevard 4
Mackenzie Conley hit a grand slam in the top of the 7th inning erase a 4-2 Tornados lead and lift the Saints to the win.
Brevard went down in order in the 7th following a leadoff walk by Kinsey Parrish.
The Tornados offensive was clicking early as they scored all four of their runs in the first two innings on their way to a 4-0 start.
The Tornados started the game with six straight hits, sparked by Kinny Davis’ single from the leadoff spot. Davis scored on Dallas Heaton’s single to center after moving to third on a double by Alyssa Miller.
Casey Whitaker’s double to left scored Heaton and gave BC a 2-0 lead after an inning of action.
Miller, who started in the circle for BC, held the Saints off the board through the first two innings. Heaton knocked a two-run homer in the 2nd to put BC in front 4-0.
The Saints got two runs back in the 3rd on a solo homer by Molly Whittington and a BC throwing error.
Game 2: North Georgia 6, Brevard 4
The Tornados scored three runs in the 6th but ultimately couldn’t overcome a 5-0 deficit after North Georgia scored five runs in the first two innings against BC starter Casey Whitaker.
Three straight doubles from Miller, Heaton and Whitaker made it a 6-4 game after six innings, but the Tornados stranded the tying run on first in the 7th.
The Tornados are back in action on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Winston-Salem State. First pitch of the opener from Salem College Field is set for 4 p.m.
