MEN'S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH AT SAC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at SAC Championship Tournament
 
Hickory, N.C.
– The Brevard College men’s golf team shot a combined team score of 309, +21, on Tuesday, to finish in fourth-place overall in the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship tournament.
 
The Tornados finished the two day event with a team score of 912, +48, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish in their first ever South Atlantic Conference tournament.
 
On Tuesday, BC’s Grant Carnie led the Tornados with a low round of 74, +2. Carnie finished with a combined score of 225, +9, over the three-rounds which was good enough for him to finish in a tie for fifth-place overall.
 
Senior David Martinez, who headed into play on Tuesday having carded two rounds of 73 on Monday, shot a 81, +9, on day two to finish the tournament with a 227, +11, placing him in a tie at 14th-place overall.
 
Brevard’s Thomas Bush carded rounds of 78, 74 and 76 over the two days, finishing the tournament in a tie for 16th-place with a combined score of 228, +12.
 
Rounding out the scoring for the Tornados was Myles Johnston who carded a 233, +17, finishing 26th overall, while fellow teammate Craig Galloway turned in a two-day score of 240, +24, placing him 35th at the tourney’s end.
 
Newberry College won the 2008 SAC Championship tournament, shooting a combined team score of 886, +22, for the tournament. Carson-Newman College took second-place overall with a 902, +38, while Lenoir-Rhyne finished third with a 909, +45.
 
With their fourth-place finish, the Tornados finished ahead of Tusculum College (5th, 917), Catawba College (6th, 920), Wingate University (7th, 929), Mars Hill College (8th, 930) and Lincoln Memorial University (9th, 938).
 
The Tornados wrap up their 2008 spring season having finished in the top-five in their fifth consecutive tournament.
