ROCK HILL, S.C.-Brevard College’s Madison Lenox has been selected to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman basketball team, while Katie Williams was named an All-SAC Honorable Mention, the league office announced Wednesday.
“We’re thrilled for Katie and Madison to be recognized as two of the top players in our league,” said head women’s basketball coach Shannon Reid. “Both individuals have been able to perform at an elite level early in their careers, and have a high ceiling as basketball players.”
Lenox was named to the All-Freshman team after leading the Tornados in scoring with 13.7 points per game while averaging 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game this season. The Raleigh, N.C. native scored in double figures in 21-of-26 games this season, including a streak of 17 consecutive games, which is a Brevard College NCAA record.
The 5-9 guard averaged 2.2 steals per game, and led the conference in steals during league play (48). Lenox appeared in all 26 of BC’s game this season, making 17 starts.
Williams garnered an All-SAC Honorable mention after averaging 13.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season. The sophomore was named SAC Player of the Week on February 10 after averaging 21 points, 8.5 rebounds and four assists in wins over Mars Hill and Queens.
The Robbinsville, N.C. native set the Brevard College single-game record for free throws made, and the single-season records for free throws made and free throw percentage. Williams went 21-for-22 from the line against Mars Hill on February 5, and netted 130 free throws on the season at a mark of 86.1 percent.
“The future is certainly bright for Brevard College women’s basketball,” added Reid. “I look forward to seeing where these two can help take our team in the future.”
