BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College baseball team lost the first two games of their three-game series with SAC foe Newberry College on Saturday at the Smith Road Complex, falling 4-0 in the opener and 6-0 in game two.
Game 1: Newberry 4, Brevard 0
Newberry starter Wesley Camp (W, 7-0) threw a three-hit shutout to help the Wolves to a 4-0 win in game one. The left has allowed just four earned runs in 46.2 innings this season.
The Wolves scored three runs in the 3rd on three hits and two walks against Brevard starter Kevin Hamilton (L, 0-3). The righty threw all eight innings for the Tornados, and settled down to keep it a three-run game until a JoJo Bradley RBI double in the 8th made it 4-0.
Alex McGee knocked a single down the left field line for BC’s first hit in the 4th inning but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a double.
The Tornados had runners at the corners with one out in the 5th after singles by Kody Spencer and Hunter Donaldson, but BC was unable to score Spencer from third.
Game 2: Newberry 6, Brevard 0
The Tornados managed eight hits and had runners in scoring position in four innings in game two but couldn’t get on the board as Newberry’s Cole Cromer (W, 3-1) stranded 10 runners in the complete-game effort.
BC righty Zac Joyce suffered his shortest start of the season, exiting in the 3rd after surrendering five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks. The Wolves made it 6-0 on an Eric Barbieri RBI double against Dustin Haithcox in the 4th.
The Tornados and Wolves complete the series on Sunday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex at 1 p.m.
