PINEHURST, N.C.-The Brevard College men’s golf team competed in the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the National Golf Club (par 72, 6632 yards), finishing 9th as a team. Twelve teams and 69 student-athletes participated in this year's event.
Freshman Oskar Lundgren finished the two-day, 36-hole event with a 156 (+12) to lead the Tornados and tie for 16th individually. Lundgren shot a 76 (+4) on Monday and carded an 80 (+8) on Tuesday, battling rain, sleet and hail on the second day.
Not far behind Lundgren were Sebastian Strehl and Diego Ortiz, who both carded 158 (+14) to tie for 22nd. Strehl carded a 79 (+7) both days, while Ortiz hit a team-best 75 (+3) on Monday and an 83 (+11) on day two.
Sami Vanni tied for 29th with a 159 (+15), carding an 81 (+9) on Monday before shaving three strokes for a 78 (+6) in the second round. Paul Calac rounded out BC’s performers with a 178.
The Tornados shot a 631 for the tournament, while Queens University of Charlotte placed won the event with a 603. Only three strokes separated Brevard and Pfeiffer, who finished in 5th.
Next on tap for the men’s golf team is the Cliffs Intercollegiate, which will be held March 30th and April 1st in Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina.
