HICKORY, N.C.- The Brevard College softball team earned a 3-2 victory in the opener on their way to a doubleheader split with Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action at Bears Field on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: BC 3, L-R 2
Brevard’s Hanna Huckabee singled in what turned out to be the game-winning run with one out in the 7th to give BC a 3-1 lead.

The Bears scored a run with one out in the 7th to make it 3-2, but BC starter Jamie Hrobak induced a groundout with a runner on second and then a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the game.

The sophomore limited the Bears to two runs in the complete-game effort. The righty pitched around seven hits and four walks while holding L-R to one run over the first six innings.

Trailing 1-0 after three innings, the Tornados took their first lead in the 4th on Kinsey Parrish’s two-run homer.

Game 2: L-R 9, BC 1
The Bears scored three runs in the 1st inning against Alyssa Miller (L, 2-7), who was lifted with two outs in the opening frame in favor of Dallas Heaton. Two of the runs charged to Miller were unearned after a pair of passed balls.

Casey Whitaker pitched the final 4.1 innings until the run rule came into effect in the 6th. The righty was charged with six runs (four earned) on 11 hits and two walks.

The Tornados scored their lone run a Parrish RBI double in the 3rd, which made it a 4-1 ballgame.

The Tornados return home as they host the Tusculum Pioneers for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
