HARTSVILLE, S.C.-The Brevard College Tornados won both games of their doubleheader with Coker College 5-4 to earn a sweep of the Cobras on Saturday afternoon at Saleeby-Stokes Field.
Game 1: Brevard 5, Coker 4
The Tornados quickly erased a 2-0 deficit with a run in the 2nd and three more in the 3rd before BC scored the eventual winning run on an Alyssa Miller RBI single in the 4th.
Kinsey Parrish cracked a two-out solo homer in the 2nd to spark the BC offense.
Ally Davenport, Miller and Brittany Fowler then started the 3rd with three straight singles. Casey Whitaker singled to tie the game before Miller scored on a throwing error to give BC a 3-2 advantage.
Kinny Davis made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly to bring Fowler home.
BC starter Jamie Hrobak (W, 9-8) was able to withstand late offense from Coker as the Cobras added a run in the 5th and another in the 6th before the sophomore stranded the winning run on second in the 7th with a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.
Game 2: Brevard 5, Coker 4
Parrish connected on her second homer of the day, a three-run shot in the 7th, to give BC a 5-4 lead as the Tornados rallied from a 4-0 deficit with five runs over the final two innings. The Tornados pieced together five hits in their final two at-bats.
Lauren Parker got BC going in the 6th with a grounder that scored Fowler, and Davis made it a two-run game with a feilder’s choice groundball to score Whitaker.
Hrobak (W, 10-8) tossed four scoreless innings to close the game after Miller allowed four runs (two earned) over the first three innings.
The Tornados return home on Monday to host a rescheduled doubleheader with Queens University beginning at 2 p.m.
