BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College (1-18, 0-11 SAC) men’s tennis team lost 7-2 while hosting their last conference match against Coker College (10-7, 9-2 SAC) on Saturday, April 12 at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
The Tornados were only able to win one doubles match against the Cobras. George Finch and Nathan Sabate led their way past Coker’s Martin Moncayo and Zach Grooms in an 8-2 win in No.3 doubles competition.
David Taggart competed for the win against Andre Staab during the No.1 singles match. The two went back and forth on sets with Taggart losing the first 5-7 then winning the second 6-4. Taggart’s second win forced them to a tiebreaker ending in the Cobra’s favor. Nathan Sabate also forced his way into a tiebreaker against William Marrafao. Sabate lost the first set 4-6 then won the second 6-1, but he couldn’t hold onto the win in the third set, losing 11-7.
Fince anchored singles in the No.6 spot against his doubles opponent Zach Grooms. Finch won the match 6-3, 6-3 to gain the Tornados final point of the day.
This was the final season match for the Tornados resulting in an 11th place spot for the conference.
