DUE SOUTH, S.C.-The Brevard College baseball team dropped their final nonconference road game of the season 6-1 to the Erskine College Flying Fleet on Tuesday afternoon at Grier Field.
The Flying Fleet took an early 3-0 lead against BC starter Kyle Pittman (L, 0-2) before Brevard got on the board in the 4th to make it a two-run game.
Brock Helton scored Matthew Proffitt in the top of the 4th with an RBI single after Proffitt doubled to start the inning. Walks by Hunter Donaldson and Blaine Durham sandwiched the Helton single, loading the bases for BC with two outs.
Chase Norman (W, 3-1) entered the game in relief of starter Dustin Sherbert following the walk to Durham, stonewalling the Tornados with a strikeout to end the inning. The Flying Fleet answered back with a run in the bottom of the 4th, and scored twice in the 8th to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Helton finished the game 2-for-4 while the Tornados had five total hits on the afternoon against six different Erskine pitchers.
The Tornados will recognize their four seniors, Alex Bedenbaugh, Dustin Haithcox, Kevin Hamilton and Eric Renegar, on Wednesday in their final home game of the season as they host Erskine College at Gil Coan Field at 3 p.m.
