SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.- The Brevard College men’s golf team finished 8th at the 2014 Food Lion SAC Tournament this week, finishing with a team score of 963 (+99).
The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the Sevierville Golf Club – River Course for a second straight year. The field battled unfavorable weather conditions on day three, with precipitation, strong wind and temperatures hovering in the mid-30’s.
Sophomore Sami Vanni and freshman Oskar Lundgren paced the Tornados as both carded a 242 (+26) over the three days. Vanni’s play was highlighted by a 75 (+3) on Sunday to finish tied for 3rd after the first day while Lundgren shot a 75 (+3) for his best round on Monday.
Junior Diego Ortiz finished just one stroke behind Vanni and Lundgren with a 243 (+27) to tie for 34th, carding an 80 (+8) on Sunday, an 82 (+10) on Monday and an 81 (+9) on the final day.
BC freshman Sebastian Strehl finished tied for 44th with a 248 (+32), while sophomore Paul Calac shot a 251 (+35) to finish 52nd.
The Carson-Newman Eagles were crowned tournament champions with a 925 (+61) while Wingate’s Ben Gebhardt was the Invdividual Medalist with an even-par 216.
