ANDERSON, S.C.- The Brevard College softball team won their seventh straight game while snapping an 11-game win streak for first-place Anderson with a 4-1 defeat of the Trojans in the opener of a doubleheader at Smethers Field on Wednesday. BC fell 14-3 in game two to earn a split.
The Tornados were the home team for both games after the doubleheader was moved from Brevard to Anderson because of inclement weather.
Game 1: Brevard 4, Anderson 1
Jamie Hrobak (W, 15-8) earned her seventh win in as many games in the opener, holding the Trojans to one run on six hits and a walk in the complete-game effort. The sophomore fanned 7 in her 16th complete game of the season.
The Trojans scored their lone run in the top of the 1st before BC answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the 6th.
Kinsey Parrish connected on a two-run homer in the 1st to give BC a 2-1 lead before Alyssa Miller knocked a solo shot in the 6th to make it a two-run lead. Emily Boykin added an insurance run later in the 6th with a two-out RBI single.
Game 2: Anderson 14, Brevard 3
Anderson jumped on BC starter Alyssa Miller (L, 3-10) for nine runs in the 1st inning of game two, knocking the senior from the circle in favor of Casey Whitaker with two outs in the opening frame.
The Tornados responded with two runs in the bottom of the 1st on an Boykin's two-run single, but the Trojans tacked on four more runs in the 4th and one in the 5th put the game out of reach for BC.
The Tornados didn’t go down without a fight, scoring their third run with two outs in the bottom of the 5th on a Parrish RBI triple.
The Tornados return to action on Friday as they visit the Catawba Indians for a SAC doubleheader at Whitley Field.
