Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College athletics department announced that it would add women’s golf as an NCAA Division II varsity sport beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.
Recruiting for the sport has already begun, and will continue in earnest in preparation for the 2008-09 varsity launch of the program. The program will begin competition in the South Atlantic Conference – a league in which the BC men’s golf program is a provisional membership this season.
“We are excited to announce the establishment of a women’s golf program at Brevard College that will be headed up by David Nelson and coached alongside our men’s golf program,” commented Interim Athletic Director Kim Pate. “The women’s golf program addition brings our varsity sport total to 18 while providing the opportunity to compete in all 14 championship sports sponsored by the South Atlantic Conference in the years to come.”
Brevard College, with an enrollment near 700, is located in Brevard, N.C. The Tornados are in their second year as NCAA Division II provisional members and will look to compete as full fledged NCAA Division II and South Atlantic Conference members beginning in the Fall of 2008.
