Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s soccer team lost on an emotional Senior Day Saturday afternoon, as they fell to Catawba College, 4-1.
The loss drops BC to 4-14-1 overall, while Coker improves to 7-11 for the season.
The Tornados struck first as Kyle Stanforth scored from an assist by Ian Townson at the10: 39 mark in the first half giving BC an early 1-0 advantage.
Brevard College had a strong defense for most of the half until a goal came from the Indian’s Ryan Villiard with only 3:21 remaining in the opening period. The assist to Villiard came from Connor Swartout. The goal knotted the score up at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Indians came out on fire after the break, as Sam Ketner found a wide open Villiard wide open in the front of the net. Villiard put one to the left side of the net past a BC’s keeper Trevor Redpath who dove to try to make the stop.
Villaird then got his third of the day as he streaked down the right side off the field, finding the ball off a missed play by the Tornados defense and putting the ball into the net with only 8:07 seconds remaining in the second half. Garth McCormack made the score 4-1 with a goal to the left side of the box with another assist from Ketner to make the final score 4-1.
For the match senior goalkeeper Trevor Redpath had nine saves, as he faced 22 shots on the day.
The BC offense was able to get off 13 shots for the game.
The Tornados wrapped up their 2007 season with an overall record of 4-14-1.
