Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College Tornados will host its WBCA Pink Zone™ this Wednesday, February 18, against Carson-Newman. Tip-off for the women's contest is set for 6:00 p.m. with the men's game following the women's conclusion.
The WBCA Pink Zone™ initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone™, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.
The Athletic Department at Brevard College and the Men's and Women's Basketball teams ask that you support this organization by wearing pink to Wednesday's game in honor of their cause. All funds received during the game will be donated to the WBCA Kay Yow Fund for Breast Cancer Awareness and fans will have the opportunity to make a donation at the door, or in the pink buckets being passed around during the game.
Student Life will be passing out bags, pink ribbons and pizza, along with information about breast cancer during the women's game.
During halftime of the women's game, there will be a series of giveaways, while the Freedom School will perform during halftime of the men's game.
