ANDERSON S.C. The Brevard College Men’s Basketball team (2-23, 0-18 SAC) battled in a close matchup on the road against Anderson (12-13, 10-19 SAC), falling 76-66 on Wednesday night.
Junior Shelby Parris (Burlington, N.J.) shined for the Tornados, scoring a team-high 27 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Freshman Levi Lamb (Atlanta, Ga.) came off the bench to score 12 points, going 5-10 from the field. Stevie Williams (High Point, N.C.) added 10 points to Brevard’s total while dishing out three assists. Brevard shot 44.6 percent from the field during the contest.
Randall Shaw led the Trojans with a game-high 32 points, finishing 6-10 from behind the arc. Carlos Dotson posted a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Maurice Howard was the only other Trojan to reach double-digits, scoring 11 points.
Stevie Williams posted the first points of the night, hitting a jumper off a pass from Harry Singh (Hanover Park, Ill.), who recorded four assists during the contest. Singh would then hit a layup after D.J. Bostick (Marietta, Ga.) came away with a steal to put the Tornados up 4-1.
Anderson would take the lead as Shaw hit a layup. The Trojans would lead 8-4 going into the first media timeout of the half. Coming out of the break, Parris scored a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound.
The Trojans extended its lead to 14 at the 6:31 mark, but Brevard would climb its way back, cutting the Trojans lead to six at the 3:50 mark as Levi Lamb came away with a steal that led to a dunk by Harry Singh.
Coming out of the final media timeout of the first half, Parris hit a jumper, and Lamb would add a dunk of his own to put the Tornados within two. Anderson’s Shawn Benard went 1-2 from the foul line to give the Trojans a 38-35 advantage going into the second half.
The second half remained close, as the Trojans extended its lead to nine as Shaw hit a three. On the next possession, Parris would answer with a three of his own off a pass from Stevie Williams. Going into the first media timeout, Anderson would have a seven-point advantage, leading 50-41.
Anderson maintained a comfortable lead for much of the second half, but the final five minutes brought about much excitement as the Tornados would get within four points at the 2:53 mark. Parris hit back-to-back layups, followed by Williams hitting two free throws and adding a layup to make the score 63-59.
Brevard was forced to foul in the final minutes of the game. Anderson closed out the final minute and a half 8-10 from the free-throw line to capture the win with the final score of 76-66.
Brevard will play in its final home game on Saturday, Feb. 18, against Catawba beginning at 4 p.m. Prior to the game, Brevard will recognize the senior cheerleaders and Seniors’ Omar El Diraoui (Beirut, Lebanon) and Harry Singh.
