Rock Hill, S.C. – Brevard College women’s tennis standout Kayley Duval has been honored as the South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Duval (Redding, Calif.) was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles matches this week as Brevard won four matches as a team. All of Duval's matches came at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles.
Monday in a 9-0 win over Tiffin, the junior teamed up with Lindsay Hostetter to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Teauana Long and Beth Clark.In singles, Duval played No. 3 and beat Jessic Stefenov, 6-3, 6-2.
Tuesday against Baldwin-Wallace, a 6-3 Brevard win, Duval and Hostetter rallied from 6-3 down to beat Alyssa Trampert and Jenny Greene, 9-7. In singles, Duval won scored the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Andrea Essig.
Wednesday, the Tornados won over No. 36 Charleston (W. Va.), 5-4. Duval and Hostetter won a fierce 9-8 (10-8) battle over Alyssa Hackworth and Katie Kim. In singles, Duval again scored the clinching point with an epic 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 victory over Sarah Monsheimer.
Thursday, Brevard finished their spring break trip with a 7-2 win over Upper Iowa. Duval and Hostetter won an 8-6 triumph over Betsy Limburg and Courtney Romer in pairs, and in singles Duval beat Mallery Cox, 6-1, 6-3.
Duval is the first Tornado women's tennis player to win SAC Player of the Week and the fourth athlete overall, following cross country runner Alycia Andrade, men's soccer player Jussi Halonen and men's basketball player Jonathan Whitson.
