BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College men’s soccer coach Bob Winch announced Friday the team’s upcoming slate for the 2017 season.
The Tornados are set to take on 16 games and two exhibition affairs in 2017, eight of which will be played within the friendly confines of the BC Turf.
“We are looking forward to the challenge of the USA South Men’s Soccer Conference and competing to improve each time we play,” said Winch.
Brevard is schedule to kick off the season in Spartanburg, S.C. against the USC-Upstate Spartans (Aug. 19, 7 p.m.) in an exhibition contest, before tangling with the Lees-McRae Bobcats three days later in Banner Elk, N.C. for a 6 p.m. meeting.
The Tornados open the regular-season against the North Greenville University Crusaders (Aug. 31, 7 p.m.) at home, followed by a Sept. 9 meeting with the Huntingdon College Hawks at 2 p.m. from the BC Turf, as the two squads meet for the USA South Conference opener.
Brevard will than take to the road for three consecutive matches, beginning with the Piedmont College Lions (Sept. 9, 5 p.m.) in Demorest, Ga., followed by meetings with the Methodist University Monarchs (Sept. 23, 3:30 p.m.) and the North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops (Sept. 24, 2 p.m.) in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Following the Tornados difficult three game road stint, the blue and white return back to Brevard on Sept. 30 for a meeting with fellow Division III transition partner, the Berea College Mountaineers at 2 p.m. Before closing out the first month of the season with a showdown with conference powerhouse, the Maryville University Saints (Sept. 30, 6 p.m.) who finished tied with N.C. Wesleyan for tops in the conference standings in 2016.
Brevard storms into the month of October with four straight road matches, beginning with the William Peace University Pacers (Oct. 7, 2 p.m.) in Raleigh, N.C., Greensboro College Pride (Oct. 8, 4 p.m.) in Greensoboro, N.C. While traveling to LaGrange, Ga. (Oct. 13) for a 4:30 p.m. meeting with the LaGrange College Panthers, followed by a 4:30 p.m. clash with the Covenant College Scots the following afternoon.
The Tornados are set to close out the 2017 regular season with four of their final five games within the confines of the BC Turf. Hosting the Ferrum College Panthers (Oct. 21) at 2 p.m., followed by another conference clash the following afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Averett University Cougars.
Brevard will than host the Pfeiffer University Falcons (Oct. 25, 2 p.m.) as the former Division II National Champion makes its first trip to Brevard, N.C. during its Division III transition.
The Tornados wrap up their home stand against the Shaw University Bears (Oct. 28, 12 p.m.) as the Tornados will celebrate the 2017 senior class. Before closing out the 2017 season against the Milligan College Buffaloes (Oct. 21, 6 p.m.).
