BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College volleyball coach Anna Grant announced Tuesday the team’s upcoming schedule for the 2017 season.
The Tornados are set to play 13 matches in 2017, six of which will be tri-match form, while four contests will take place within the friendly confines of Boshamer Gymnasium.
Brevard’s tri-matches will consist of three games, the first game features the host school versus the furthest visiting team, followed by the furthest visiting school versus the closest visiting institution, before wrapping up with the host school playing the closest visiting team.
"I am extremely excited for our first year of play in the USA South Conference,” said Grant. “Our schedule will include teams from both divisions, giving us a clearer idea of what to expect from our new conference. We have a strong group of returners that are eager to face new competition and our incoming freshman class will be presented with opportunities to step in and play right away."
The Tornados open the 2017 campaign with a trip to Misenheimer, N.C. on Sept. 2 as they battle the Pfieffer University Falcons at 4 p.m., before traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C. Sept. 13 for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Salem College Spirits.
Following their opening solo matches, Brevard will begin their first of six tri-matches on Sept. 16 as they travel to Emory, Va. for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Washington and Lee University Generals and the Emory and Henry Wasps.
Brevard will than return back to USA South Conference action on Sept. 20 as they travel to Demorest, Ga. for a 6 p.m. match with the Piedmont College Lions, while traveling to Montgomery, Ala. Sept. 23 for a 12 p.m. tri-match with the Berea College Mountaineers and the Huntingdon College Hawks.
The Tornados will close out the month of September on the 30th with another tri-match beginning at 12 p.m. in Brevard, N.C. as the blue and white battle the Maryville College Scots and the LaGrange College Panthers in the home opener.
The month of October opens with three straight home dates, as the Tornados host the Agnes-Scott College Scotties (Oct. 4, 6 p.m.), the Covenant College Scots and North Carolina Wesleyan College Battling Bishops (Oct. 7, 12 p.m.) and finally Piedmont for senior day (Oct. 10, 6 p.m.).
Following the Tornados four game home stand, the blue and white will close out the 2017 season with their final four match dates being on the road. Beginning in Berea, Ky. on Oct. 14 as Brevard faces both Berea and Huntingdon beginning at 12 p.m.
Brevard will than make the trek to Maryville, Tenn. the following weekend for a tri-match with both Maryville and LaGrange at 12 p.m., before finishing their final solo bout of the season Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. with Agnes-Scott in Decatur, Ga.
The Tornados close out the 2017 season in Rocky Mount, N.C. on Oct. 28, when they face off with N.C. Wesleyan and Covenant at 12 p.m.
All Brevard College Tornados home volleyball matches are a five dollar at the door charge, or participants can purchase a Tornado Club pass they gains them access to all Tornados events.
