Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team was beaten by NCAA Division I member UNC Asheville on Wednesday, 7-0. Because of rain, the match was moved indoors, to Crowne Plaza Resort. The Tornados fall to 14-5, while the Bulldogs improve to 11-6.
Because the match was played under Division I rules, the three doubles matches were worth one combined point, which the Bulldogs took with a sweep. Leslie Smith and Stephanie Schon won the top match over Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon, 8-0, while Devon Cavanaugh and Louise Bottomley beat Kayley Duval and Lindsay Hostetter in a close match at No. 2, 8-5. The final pairs match went to Tania Mateva and Nicole Schon, 8-2, over Sara Douglas and Merek Slagle.
All six singles points went the way of the Bulldogs.
