Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados scored another victory Wednesday, easing past Johnson C. Smith, 9-0. With the win, the Tornados improve to a perfect 10-0 in non-conference play, while moving their overall record to 15-3.
The Tornados won both contested doubles matches. Cole Altizer and Konstantin Savelyev won an 8-1 match over Aaron Hutcherson and Jamil Jones in the top spot, while Andrew Thompson and Nate Lyes won by the same score over George Dixon and Andrew Anglin. The Golden Bulls (6-15) did not field a third doubles team, conceding the point to Brevard.
In singles, Riikonen beat Hutcherson, 6-1, 6-0, while Altizer got past Jones, 6-1, 7-5. Jarred Fisher beat Dixon, 6-0, 6-0, Shane Apps beat Anglin by the same count, and Sam Johnston was equally perfect over Jerald Stuckey, winning 6-0, 6-0. Johnson C. Smith did not have a sixth player, allowing the Tornados a walkover victory.
Brevard returns to the court Thursday against UNC Asheville, a 3:30 match, while the Golden Bulls face Virginia State Friday at 3 p.m.
