Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College scored a convincing 9-0 win over Johnson C. Smith Wednesday afternoon at the Brevard Tennis Courts, ending a brief two-match losing streak. Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon led the way for the Tornados with a win each in singles and doubles action.
The duo of Shaeffer and Dixon started the match with an 8-6 pairs win over Cameron Chatman and Brittany Laws, while Jennifer Nyman and Emily Barrick won an 8-3 decision over Melissa Shuler and Rolanda Sue in the other doubles match. Johnson C. Smith (12-12) did not field a third doubles team, so Brevard (15-5) was award the third point in pairs play.
Shaeffer started the singles round with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 win over Chatman, while Kayley Duval beat Laws, 6-1, 6-0. Sara Douglas got past Shuler on court three, 6-2, 6-1, and Merek Slagle beat Sue in the fourth match, 6-0, 6-1. Because Johnson C. Smith had only four players, the Tornados took the final two singles points.
Brevard is back in action on April 18 against Emmanuel College, the regular season finale. First serve is at 3 p.m. Johnson C. Smith plays Virginia State Friday at noon.
