Harrogate, Tenn. – The Brevard College women’s tennis team wrapped up their 2007-08 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Tornados defeated Lincoln Memorial University 5-4 in Harrogate, Tenn.
The Tornados overcame an early 2-1 deficit, as the Lady Railsplitters’ took two out of the three doubles matches from Brevard. The lone doubles win for BC came at the No. 1 position, as the team of Kimberly Dixon and Lindsay Shaeffer beat LMU’s Kathleen Rollet and Sophie Denlinger, 5-4.
In singles action, Brevard won four out of the six bouts to pickup the 5-4 overall victory.
At the No. 2 singles spot, Dixon cruised past LMU’s Denlinger in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Brevard’s Kayley Duval overcame a 2-6 first set loss at the No. 3 spot, bouncing back to defeat Rachel Redmond of LMU, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
At the No. 4 singles position, the Tornados Sara Douglas dominated her opponent Emily Osborne, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
BC junior Merek Slagle picked up the win at the No. 6 spot, as she won the third set super-tiebreaker 10-7, ultimately defeating LMU’s Nicole Combs 5-7, 6-3, (10-7).
With the win the Tornados finish the season 14-8 overall and 11-8 in the spring. BC also finished 7-1 at home on the year.
