Bristol, Tenn. - The Brevard College baseball team fell to the Tornado of King College Wednesday afternoon, 8-5. Coupled with their 3-2 win on February 24 at Gil Coan Field, the Volunteer State Tornado (29-11) sweep the season series.
Jacob White (1-4; Elkin, N.C.) allowed three runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief and took the loss for Brevard. Ryan Toney (Johnson City, Tenn.) started the game for the Tornados and allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings.
The good guys struck first, scoring three runs in the 2nd inning. Jackie Corn (Hendersonville, N.C.) led off the inning with a double and came home on a double from William Scholer (Norwalk, Iowa). Scholer and Kellen Moman (Greenville, S.C.) came home later in the frame on a single by Josh Miller (Hendersonville, N.C.).
King wrestled the lead away in the bottom of the 2nd. Justin Reising (Jonesborough, Tenn.) led off the inning with a home run. Later, Ryan Kennedy (Elizabethton, Tenn.) brought home three runs with a bases-clearing double to make score 4-3 King.
Brevard came back to tie the game in the 5th with a solo run. Miller came home to score on a sac fly from Spencer Linn (Fletcher, N.C.), tying the contest at 4 apiece.
The home side took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Danny Williamson (Middleburg, Fla.) and Jon Jordan (Bristol, Tenn.) each came up with run-scoring doubles, with Jordan's plating two scores, to make the tally 7-4.
Brevard came back with a run in the 6th on a Moman home run, his fifth of the season, before King added an insurance run in the 8th on an RBI double from Reising, who finished the game 3-4 with a pair batted in.
Miller was 2-2 for Brevard with a run scored, while Moman's dinger gave him the team lead in the category.
Brevard plays their final South Atlantic Conference series of the 2009 season this weekend at Gil Coan Field against Catawba. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon, and one game Sunday at 1 p.m. King plays Montreat in a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
