Fleming leads men's squad with two top-ten finishes

Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College track & field teams concluded their 2009 season over the weekend at the Division II Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University. Both the men's and women's teams finished in tenth place.

In the men's discus throw, Stanley Jones finished 5th out of 11 with a heave of 34.47 meters.

In the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, Brittany Radenbaugh finished 5th with a time of 14:51.83.

In the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, Jonathan LaVelle checked in 4th with a time of 11:25.46.

In the men's 400 meter dash, Damon Martin finished 12th, with a run of 54.03.

Two Tornados had strong finishes in the 25-man 100 meter dash. Justin Fleming scored a 9th place finish, with a sprint of 11.17, while Shaton Pratt was 12th in a time of 11.27.

Three Brevard runners competed in the women's 800 meter run. Chynna Shipp finished 16th with a run of 2:55.34, Kristen Zerressen was 19th in a time of 3:11.09, and Hannah Beck was 20th in a time of 3:21.32.

Martin had a fine showing in the 21-man 800 meter run, finished in 11th with a time of 2:06.79.

Fleming and Pratt both tore up the track in the men's 200 meter dash. Fleming was 3rd out of 25 with a sprint of 22.23, while Pratt was 10th with a time of 22.67.

Last but not least, Tiffen Tapia finished 11th in the men's 5000 meter run, in a time of 20:21.79

Both the men's and women's portion of the event was won by UNC Pembroke.
