Banner Elk, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s and women’s track and field team had a number of individuals compete at the 2008 Tri-Conference – Bobcat Open this past weekend.
On the women’s side, the Tornados distance runner Alycia Andrade finished ninth-place overall in the Women 10000 meter run, finishing with a time of 42:28.17. Her ninth-place showing was tops among South Atlantic Conference performers in the event.
In the women’s 1500 meter run, the Tornados had two performers compete, as sophomores Hannah Beck and Meghan Grimes finished 25th and 26th, respectively. Beck finished with a time of 6:16.84, finishing just ahead of Grimes who crossed the line with a time of 6:29.78.
Brevard’s Grimes also competed in the women’s discus throw event, turning in a throw of 22.31 meters in the finals heat, placing her in 16th-overall.
On the men’s side, the Tornados Stephen Dawson turned a top-10 performance in the men’s triple jump event, turning in a jump of 12.25 meters, which placed him ninth-place overall for the event.
In the men’s 1500 meter run, freshman Tiffen Tapia finished 32nd overall with a time of 5:00.50.
Fellow distance runner Zach Hazen took 35th in the 5000 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:38.05.
The 2008 Tri-Conference meet was the last meet of the season for the Tornados.
