INAUGURAL TORNADO CLUB GOLF TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS

Brevard, N.C. - The Tornado Club’s Inaugural Golf Tournament was a huge success, bringing over ninety participants out to play at the Lake Toxaway Country Club. Despite the morning rain, golfers teed off as planned and the rain subsided for an enjoyable day of golf, companionship, and prizes.

All proceeds from the tournament went to the Brevard Athletics Department and its student athletes that total over 300.

Howard Dyer, the tournament committee chair, successfully planned and organized an event that exceeded all expectations.

"The Inaugural Tornado Club Golf Tournament was a huge success," says Dyer "We had 94 players and 33 sponsors, I wish to give my appreciation to all the members of the Steering Committee, Kim Pate, President Van Horn and all of their staff for the assistance they gave me. We had a wonderful time and we look forward to the tournament again next year."

The play was set up for teams of four to compete against one another.

The President of Brevard College, Dr. Drew Van Horn, was among the competitors in the tournament. Dr. Van Horn was just one of many golfers who were pleased with the tournament and as president of the institution he was also please with the generosity of our community and community members.

"The generosity of those who participated exceeded our expectations. Thank you to our sponsors and players." Van Horn added, "Their Financial support for the Tornado Club goes towards scholarships and programmatic expenses."

At hole 16 the participating golfers had a chance to win a 2010 Mercedes-Benz if they sunk a hole-in-one. Other hole in one prizes included a 50" Plasma TV, an iTouch and gift card, and Ping Golf Clubs.

Back at the clubhouse, while enjoying food and drink, the players were able to take a shot at the silent auction items. Bidders had the opportunity to win a seven day, six night Wyndham Vacation, four tickets to a UNC basketball game, and BC signature apparel packages.

The day would not have been a success if it were not for the wonderful support of Reg Heinitsh and his staff at the Lake Toxaway Country Club, as well as Lou Biago, the golf pro and tournament director at the club.

Kim Pate, Athletic Director at Brevard College expressed her appreciation for Lake Toxaway’s help with the event, saying,

"I want to express my gratitude to Reg Heinitsh and the Lake Toxaway Country Club for providing us the opportunity to use this world class facility and host this special event , the staff including golf pro Lou Biago were incredible to work with."
