Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College volleyball player Brooke Seaman has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week for week one of the 2009-10 athletic season. The senior received 33 of the 87 votes cast (37.9%) to be crowd with the first week's honor.
The Preseason All-SAC 1st team pick led the Tornados volleyball team to a 3-0 weekend as the Tornados recorded wins over Mountain State, Reinhardt and Montreat at the Volley in the Mountains season opener hosted by Montreat College. For the day, Seaman recorded 34 kills, hitting at a 41.3% rate, with 13 total blocks and six service aces.
In the first game against Mountain State, Seaman recorded 10 kills, hitting 47.1% in leading the team to a win in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-10 and 25-11).
In the second match, the senior middle hitter added 10 more kills to her list, to go with a solo block and five block assists as Brevard rallied back after dropping the first set to win the match 3-1 (19-25, 25-9, 25-16, 25-17).
Seaman saved her best game of the day for the nightcap against the host Cavaliers, with 14 kills, hitting 47.8% of her attacks, and recording five more block assists to give the Tornados the win, 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-11, 25-23).
Other nominees for Athlete of the Week were women's soccer freshman Allie Hovis (30 votes, 34.4%), junior fullback Neville Bryce for the football team (22 votes, 25.3%) and men's soccer freshman Chris Landrik-Larsen (2 votes, 2.2%)
