Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados lost their first match of the season three games to two against Southern Wesleyan. Brooke Seaman and Chelsea Larsen added 14 kills each for the Tornados.
With the loss, the Tornados fall to 4-1, while the Warriors improve to 1-4.
Brevard came out strong in the first set topping Southern Wesleyan 25-17. The Tornados had 15 of their kills in the first set.
The Warriors jumped on the Tornados early in the second set. After a timeout, Coach Skeffington’s squad came out down 17-11 and started to look alive. Lindsey Rogers’ dig kept the ball alive and the Tornados went on a run that brought the score to 20-17. They with in two, however, with the set point at stake the Tornados made a crucial setting error to give the Warriors the win and tying the match 1-1.
Southern Wesleyan led the majority of the third set until a Brooke Seaman kill tied it up 23-23. Jordei Osby then gave the Tornados at 25-24 edge with a kill before Southern Wesleyan was called for crossing the center line giving Brevard the set win.
The Warriors used eleven kills in the fourth set to up-end Brevard 25-15 sending the match into a fifth set.
The Tornados started slow in the fifth set before scoring five straight times to make the score 14-8, the streak, however, ended when the Warriors scored the set point to win the set and the match 3-2.
Brevard is back in action on Tuesday when Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Brevard for a 7 p.m. match.
