Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados football team returns home after their two-game road trip to take on the Chowan University Hawks Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Brevard Memorial Stadium.
Brevard returns home, having dominated the competition in the early going, racking up an average of 355 yards on the ground in their two games, out-scoring opponents 91-9 as the Tornados have a 2-0 record for the first time in modern program history.
Chowan comes into this game, having fallen twice this season to Albany State and Old Dominion by identical scores, 36-21 over the past two weeks. Quarterback CJ Westler has been leading a potent passing attack for the Hawks, which is averaging just over 263 yards in the air per game.
Last season’s match-up between the Tornados and the Hawks was a down-to-the-wire finish in Murfreesboro as Brevard led in the game at one point by a 20-3 score as Donald Hudson and Shaton Pratt both had career receiving days as each went over the 100 yard mark, but a late surge by the Hawks offense capped a comeback which saw Chowan score 10 points in the last 15 minutes of play to pull off the win, 23-20.
This season, the Tornados offense, with two players already with 100-plus yards rushing, led by Neville Bryce’s 192 yard effort in the season opener against Edward Waters, look to jump ahead early, while Brevard’s defense, one game off holding the Pikeville Bears to 75 yard total offense while look to neutralize the Hawks’ aerial assault.
The kickoff time is slated for 2 p.m. at Brevard Memorial Stadium in Brevard, N.C. The shuttle buses begin running at noon and the gates will open at that time as well, two hours prior to the opening kickoff.
General admission to the game is $10 for adults.
