Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College women's soccer player Bailey Varley has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week for week two of the 2009-10 athletic season. The sophomore received 37.1% of the votes.

Varley scored three goals against Lees-McRae on Tuesday, September 1, including the game winner in doule over time to lift the Tornados to a victory and a 3-0 record.

Varley's first goal tied the game 1-1 in the first period. She took a pass from Allie Hovis and muscled past the goalkeeper to knock one in for Brevard. Her second goal came in the second period with the Tornados down 3-1 when she scored off of a pass from Alyssa Caracena. Nikki Peacock's goal then tied the game up allowing the Tornados to play into a double overtime when Varley completed her hat trick two minutes into that second overtime.

Other nominees for Athlete of the Week were Michael Crumbaker for football, who recieved 29% of the votes with 20 carries, 112 yards, 1 TD, 4-6 through the air for 37 yards as Brevard downs Pikeville on the road, 40-3  Prince Simunyu for football, who got 26% of the votes, with seven tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack as the Tornados defense swarmed the Bears offense, holding them to 75 total yards as BC defeated Pikeville, 40-3, Chelsea Larsen, for volleyball had 6% of the votes, with 26 kills, hitting 30.3% of her attacks, as well as recording seven digs and a block assist as the Tornados went 1-1 on the week, and Jo Tuttle for cycling who finished with 2% of the votes, winning the downhill and dual slalom events last weekend at ETSU.
