STANLEY JONES NAMED TORNADO ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Brevard, N.C. - Brevard College football player and reigning SAC defensive player of the week, Stanley Jones has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week for week three of the 2009-10 athletic season receiving 54.3% of the votes.

Jones a senior from Spartanburg, S.C.(Spartanburg HS) led the way for the defense, as he posted a team-high 16 total tackles in the Tornados 27-24 win over Chowan in the Brevard home opener on Saturday afternoon. Jones also recorded three tackles for a loss and was a part of three sacks in the game as the Tornados dropped Hawks quarterback C.J. Westler a school-record nine times in the game.

Jones leads the SAC in tackles on the season. He led the conference in tackles per game last season with 9.8 and was a first team preseason All-Conference selection.

Other nominees this week were Jones’ teammate Justin Fleming who received 24.3% of the votes after recording 2 carries, 110 yards, including the go ahead 74 yard TD run for the Tornados, volleyball's Brooke Seaman received 14.1% of the votes with 41 kills, 31.6% hitting percentage 21 total blocks, 7 service aces, as the team went 2-1 on the week, and men’s soccer’s Craig Galloway who received 7.1% of the votes after recording 2 goals on the week both from beyond 30 yards out as the Tornados went 1-1 on the week.

Week 1 - Brooke Seaman, Volleyball (34 kills, 41.3% hitting percentage, 13 total blocks, six service aces as Tornados go 3-0 on the week)

Week 2 - Bailey Varley, Women's Soccer (Three goals, including the game winner in double overtime as the Tornados advanced to 3-0)

Week 3 – Stanley Jones, Football (16 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, as the Tornados move to 3-0 on the season)
