Cowie Wins Cross Country Event

Boone, N.C.-The Brevard College Cycling teams raced at Appalachian State University last weekend in a Dual Conference race of schools from the ACCC and SECCC. The Tornados rode against teams from Lees-McRae, Union, West Virginia, Warren Wilson, Appalachian State, Mars Hill, Cumberland, Virginia Tech, Duke, UNC-Asheville, NC State, Florida, UGA, and East Tennessee State.

Julia Tellman finished second in the Women’s A Cross Country race with a 1:38:35 ride. Sarah Duncan placed tenth. UGA’s Jamie Dinkins won the race in 1:29:43.

BC’s Morgan Sykes turned in a fifth place time of 1:39:16 in the Women’s B race. Kathryn Smith of Lees-McRae crossed first in 1:05:46.

In the Women’s A Dual Slalom event Jo Tuttle posted the best qualifying time of 34.320. Tuttle went on to win the 16-woman bracket. Tellman finished fourth in the field. Alexis DeCosimo raced to an eighth place result and Sarah Duncan finished 15th.

The Women’s Short Track Cross Country Race saw four Tornados finish in the top ten. Tellman crossed in second place. Tuttle finished fifth. Decosimo ran seventh and Duncan turned in a ninth place result. UGA’s Dinkins won the event.

Tristan Cowie placed first in the 44-man Men’s A Cross Country Race. He finished in 1:29:41. Cory Rimmer crossed in ninth place at 1:41:44. Matthew St. Marie turned in a 1:45:06 time to garner a fourteenth place result. Matthew Wells’ 1:52:04 ride was good enough for 22nd place. Tim Reinhart finished 26th.

Danny Cesare finished sixth in the 32-rider Men’s A Dual Slalom Bracket after turning in the third best qualifying time. Cowie was 13th. James Chaput came in at 26th. Rimmer rode 28th and Jacob Roland finished 31st.

Kyle Stallings finished seventh in the Men’s C Dual Slalom race won by Virginia Tech’s Brice Collmar.

Cowie’s fifth-place finish in the Short Track Cross Country Race was the best of the Tornado group. Rimmer came in eighth. St. Marie placed eleventh. Wells and Reinhart placed 18th and 19th respectively. Lees-McRae’s Brad Perley finished first in the 28-man field.

John Palmer finished 11th in the Men’s B STXC race. David Henry of Virginia Tech placed first.

Kyle Stallings rode 13th in the Men’s C STXC race, an event won by Virginia Tech’s Christopher Brown.

The Tornados race again this weekend when they host the Brevard College Meet September 26 and 27.
