Brevard, N.C. - Tusculum jumped on the Tornados early and did not let up for 90 minutes. Anteneh Lemma’s hat trick led the Pioneers along with Marc Joseph’s two goals as Tusculum defeated Brevard 7-0.
Tusculum improved to 5-1-1 and 1-1 in the conference as Brevard falls to 1-7 and 0-2 in the conference.
The Pioneers began scoring early. Their first goal came five minutes into the game when Andres Jarquin connected with Lemma who put a shot into the bottom right corner of the net for his first goal of the game.
Tusculum scored again in the seventh minute when Scott Lucky’s corner kick hooked to Phillip Hagan for a header goal. Then at 10:04 Lucky assisted in another goal, this time off of a free kick curled into the box, and was tapped in by Joseph.
Jarquin scored a goal to go with his assist at 18:30 when he took a pass from Nick Rich and kicked the ball under a diving Thomas Kombol. Rich assisted on the next a goal a minute later when he crossed a pass to Lemma for his second goal.
Tusculum scored once more after the Brevard defense blocked a shot from Jarquin that deflected to Joseph who knocked the ball into the net from inside of the box for his second goal of the game.
Lemma completed the hat trick 66:58 off of a pass from Sven Meyer putting Tusculum up 7-0.
Craig Galloway and Tim Blevins both threatened to score within the last five minutes, but Andy Goellner, who replaced Lance Moore in goal with 26 minutes remaining, saved both shots.
The Tornados were almost even with the Pioneers in shots as the Tornados shot 12 times with 6 on goal and the Pioneers shot 15 times with 7 on goal.
Brevard returns to action on Saturday. The Tornados game scheduled for Saturday has been moved to Lenior-Rhyne due to poor field conditions. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
