TORNADOS FALL ON THE ROAD TO WINGATE, 3-0

Wingate, N.C. - The Tornados fell to Wingate Wednesday evening in straight sets, 25-13, 25-9 and 25-19.

With the loss, Brevard moves to 7-4, 0-3 in conference play, while Wingate improves to 15-1, 4-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.

The Tornados were led by Chelsea Larsen and Jordei Osby, each with four kills. Osby also had a great game at the net, recording five total blocks on the evening, while Bethany Stevenson had 11 set assists. Rebecca Schoonover patrolled the backline, picking up 13 digs for the Tornados.

Wingate was led by Stormi Gale, with 11 kills. Liz Willis had 24 assists, while Maggie Malone and Brittany Horner each recorded double-digit dig games with 14 and 11 repeatedly.

Wingate gained control in set one early, going up 15-6 behind Lauren Billo and Jenny O’Brien’s combined five kills.

The Tornados fought back behind kills from their trio of sophomores in Larsen, Osby and Ashlie Morrison, but Gale closed out set number one with a kill, 25-13.

Wingate jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the second set as Janice Ehorn recorded a pair of kills.

A service error by Horner gave the Tornados the serve, where they proceeded to run off five straight points, highlighted by blocks by Osby, Morrison and Stevenson to bring the game back to 13-8.

However, the Bulldogs came back to go on a 12-1 run to close out game two in favor of the home team, 25-9.

The Tornados fell behind 7-1 at the start of the set as Rebecca Bloemer fired in a pair of service aces.

Coach Brenda Skeffington’s team did not quit, rallying back to put the game within one at with a 6-1 run of their own as senior outside hitter Chelsey Trojan had a pair of kills and combined with Brooke Seaman for a block on a Gale attack.

Wingate started to take control of the set late, going up 20-14, but Brevard continued to battle through, but the Bulldogs came out on top with the final set win, 25-19.

Brevard is back in action on Friday, September 25th as they return home to Boshamer Gymnasium to host Queens University of Charlotte. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
