Brevard, N.C. - Several members of the Brevard College Cycling Team recently returned from Mount Snow Vermont where the USA Mountain Bike National Championships were being held. The team had a strong contingent at the race, with Tristan Cowie, Matt St. Marie, Matt Wells, Joanne Tuttle and Tim Reinhart making the trip.

In an event that draws the best riders in the country out to contest the national title, Tuttle had the best result of the weekend, winning the super D national championship.
“I started out behind someone on the run, but then pulled away on the first downhill and didn’t see anyone else,” stated Tuttle. “I was really happy to cross the line first.”
In spite of not feeling very good during her one practice run, Tuttle said that something just clicked during the race and she was suddenly riding really well. Her time would have placed her in 11th in the pro women’s field, and was the second fastest time among non-pro women.
Tuttle also finished third in the expert dual slalom and fourth in the sport cross country race.
Brevard teammate Matt Wells raced in the expert cross country race and placed an impressive seventh-place on a course that suited his strengths.
Cowie finished 16th in one of the first races of the weekend, the under 23 pro race. Cowie was positive about his result, and was happy to have the experience. Reinhart placed 13th-place in the sport cross country race. St. Marie had a series of mechanicals and had to drop out of both of his events.
The team was pleased with the weekend, and is looking forward to the upcoming collegiate season.
