Brevard, N.C. - Brevard freshman, Ryan Guill scored his first collegiate goal Saturday afternoon, while senior Ian Townson notched a goal on a penalty kick. However, the Tornados ultimately fell 4-2 to the visiting Saints of North Gerogia in a rough, hard-fought game.
With the win North Georgia improves to 4-5 while Brevard drops to 1-10 on the season.
North Georgia began the scoring seven minutes in with a Chris Griffith goal. Then at 18:19 they added another when Juan Gonzales’ shot ricocheted off the post to Juan Hurtado who knocked the ball into the left corner of the net.
The Tornados were first to score in the second half when Ian Townson easily rocketed a penalty shot past goalkeeper, Rade Tanaskovic to make the score 2-1.
Hurtado then scored his second goal of the game for the Saints at 71:38 to put North Georgia up 3-1.
Minutes later, Renato Barbosa took advantage of a free kick opportunity and connected with Guill for the Tornados second goal.
North Georgia scored an insurance goal at 88:25 increasing their lead to 4-2 which would be the final.
Tanaskovic tallied just three saves on the day for the Saints despite the Tornados 14 total shots while Shaw his counterpart also tallied just three saves despite 16 shots from the Saints.
The Tornados return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Queens for another non-conference match.
