Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados softball team got it done both on and off the field last season, qualifying for the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference softball tournament at Lenoir-Rhyne and finishing 23rd in the nation in Team GPA.
Coach Britne Stubbs squad accumulated a team GPA of 3.338 throughout the course of the 2008-2009 academic year, which ranked third in the Southeast Region and first among schools of the South Atlantic Conference.
Coach Stubbs, enthusiastic about her team’s achievement had the following to say, ““I am extremely excited about the progress my squad has made in the classroom on a year to year basis. To jump from 32nd in the nation to 23rd in the nation in only one year tells you just how hard they are working as a student-athlete.”
Under the tutelage of Coach Stubbs, the Tornados softball team has improved each of the past two seasons and qualified for the SAC tournament in their first full season as members of both NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Confererence.
Liz Houser, Jennifer Gift, Rachel Montgomery, Katie Thornburg and Beth Brooker were all chose as Academic All-Americans as well.
“I expect BC Softball to excel off and on the field,” Coach Stubbs commented, “and I look for us to continue to improve in the years to come.”
