Wingate tops Brevard 5-1

Wingate, N.C. - Brevard fell to Wingate by a score of 5-1 Wednesday night after being down just 2-1 at the half. Kersten Williams led the Bulldogs with two goals, while Tornado goalkeeper Sydney Douglas recorded twelve save.

The Bulldogs improve to 8-1-3 and 1-1-1 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 5-8 and 0-5 in the SAC.

Madi Welch connected with Williams for Wingate’s first goal just two minutes into the game. Brevard battled back tying the game 1-1 at 36:06 when Alyssa Caracena received a corner kick inside the box and chipped a shot in for her second goal of the year. However, minutes later Wingate regained the lead when Donaldson crossed a pass to Williams for her second goal of the game.
The Tornados defended a corner kick and Sydney Douglas saved two shots with in the last five minutes of the first half to hold the Tornados within one going into the break.

Julie Zeilinski and Samantha Baldwin each scored for Wingate in the second half. The Bulldogs last goal came when Casey King connected on a penalty kick.

Caitie Avery allowed one goal and saved one for Wingate in 52:10 before Miriam Boucher replaced her with 37:50 remaining in the game.

The Tornados will return to action this Saturday when Warren Wilson travels to Brevard for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
