Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College Cross Country team competed at the Conference Championships at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C. Saturday October 24.
BC’s Matt Crowe garnered Second Team All-SAC Honors and was named to the All-Conference Freshman team after finishing 14th in the 68-man field in the Men’s 8000 meters, completing the course in 27 minutes, 49.59 seconds. Fellow freshman Matt Lambert ran to a 26th place finish in 28:49.85. Sophomore Jonathan LaVelle placed 41st in 30:35.53. Tiffen Tapia followed close behind in 31:01.86. Willie Jones crossed in 33:17.07 and Anthony McCaffery turned in a 33:29.44 time. Zach Hazen ran the course in 35:09.61.
The Tornados finished tied for sixth in the team competition as Mars Hill won the team title for the 13th consecutive time.
BC freshman Melissa Schmidt finished 29th in the 65-woman 5000 meters field, crossing the tape in 23:01.20, while fellow freshman Danielle Messer was 34th with a 23:23.17 time. Ariel Muiselaar ran for 25:12.76. Hannah Beck followed in 25:27.70. Claire Dillman crossed in 25:54.76. Chynna Shipp turned in a 32:04.56 time.
The Tornado women finished seventh in the team competition, while the Bears took home the Conference Title for the second straight year.
The Cross Country Regional Championship is scheduled for Saturday, November 7 at 9 a.m. in Wingate, N.C.
