Jefferson City, Tenn. - The Tornados handled Converse Saturday afternoon for their first victory of the season at the Lady Eagle Shootout at Carson-Newman. All-SAC selection, Samantha Winn led the Tornados for the third game in a row with 28 points, while Amanda Whitaker led Brevard's defense with seven steals, two blocks, and three defensive rebounds. As a team, Brevard had 19 steals en route to an 87-74 victory.
The Tornados improve to 1-2, while Converse falls to 0-3 on the year.
Converse gave the Tornados a showing early in the game, but were haulted by Holli Flippo who jump started the Tornados with a hot hand in the first half. Flippo scored 15 points, shooting 56% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. The Tornados led 40-31 at the half and carried the momentum into the second half.
Ashley Arff led the Valkries in scoring with 20 after scoring just 3 in the first, on the counter attack Winn who had just 5 points in the first half, scored 21 and pulled down 6 rebounds in the second shooting 65% for the game. The Tornados saw their biggest lead with in the last minute of play when they led by 17.
The Tornados return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan for a 5:30 game.
