Brevard, N.C. - Brevard and King battled a close game for the second time this year, the Tornados getting the better of King on this occasion 63-59. Samantha Winn led Brevard in scoring for the six straight with 18 points. While the Tornados defense came up big with 13 team steals led by Amanda Whitaker with 4.
The Tornados improve to an even 3-3 on the year while King falls to 2-4.
The Tornados shot 52% from the field in the first half led by Winn’s 8 points and Anna Schlobohm’s 3-4 performance. Asheley Watkins led the defense in the first half with 2 steals while taking one of them coast to coast for a lay up with in the last minute. Following Watkins’ jumper, Schlobohm stole the ball away from King and made a last second three pointer that sent Brevard into the intermission up 33-25.
After turning the ball over 10 times in the first half, Brevard had just 3 turnovers in the second posting a season low 13 team turnovers, to King's 23.
King's hot shooting kept them close in the second half. They took their first and only lead of the game on a Jessica Tharpe three pointer with 7:33 left in the game after going on a 13-2 run. Brevard regained the lead and allowed King to tie the score only one more time as Schlobohm and Holli Flippo’s consecutive free throw secured the 63-59 victory.
Beth Raby led the King Tornado with 15 points while Allison Bosse pulled down 11 rebounds, scoring 9 points.
The Tornados return to action on Thursday when Truett-McConnell travels to Brevard for a 6:00 p.m. game in Bashamer Gymnasium.
