Cleveland, Ga. - Fourteen players scored for Brevard Monday night led by Samantha Winn with 14 points, Holli Flippo with 12, and Tempestt Mack with 10 as they defeated the Truett-McConnell Bears, led by the 28 points of Symone Hampton, 101-59.
Brevard improves to 6-7 while the Bears fall to 0-17.
Brevard jumped on Truett-McConnell early led by Winn’s 12 points, four steals, and three rebounds in the first half. Mack added four rebounds and eight points for the Tornados in the first half, shooting three for three from the field, two of which were three pointers.
As a team, the Tornados shot 55.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc in the first half as they led by as many as they led by as many as 26 going into the intermission on top 48-22.
A host of players added points for the Tornados in the second half. Flippo shot three for four from beyond the arc adding nine while boosting the team’s three point percentage to 52.4.
Micah LaJoie shot two for two from the three point arc and three for four from the field finishing the game with nine points, three assists, and two steals.
Asheley Watkins ran the offense leading the team with five assists, a season high for her.
Brevard stole the ball away 22 times, a team season high, led by Winn with six, Alyssa Cutshaw with four, and Amanda Whitaker with three. Brevard’s defense also set a new season high when they blocked seven shots led by Millie Wharton with two.
The Bears threatened to pull back into the game in the second half coming as close as 19 to the Tornados before being turned away by the Tornados who saw their largest lead when they finished with game up 42 points on Truett-McConnell.
The Tornados return to conference action this Wednesday when they travel to Catawba for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
