Tigerville, S.C. - Three Tornados scored double digits Monday night at North Greenville, led by Samantha Winn and Brianna Worley with 14 each. Anna Schlobohm added ten points and four rebounds for the Tornados who ultimately fell to the Crusaders 71-64 in a game that saw two ties and six lead changes.
The Tornados now fall to 6-11 while North Greenville improves to 7-11.
The Tornados trailed the majority of the first half, allowing the Crusaders to begin the game with a 10-2 run. After trailing by as many as ten the Tornados rallied and took the lead on an Amber Roberts three-pointer with 3:03 left in the half. Roberts who shot three for three in the first half, leading the team with eight points, converted on another three to regain Brevard’s lead going into the intermission, 29-28.
The Tornados’ defense came out strong to start the second half. Within the first two minutes, Brevard had outscored North Greenville 5-0 and had already recorded four steals. The Tornados totaled nine steals led by Asheley Watkins and Amanda Whitaker with two a piece.
North Greenville used a 9-0 run to regain as much as an eight point lead. Whitney Smith and Christina Carlis led the Crusaders in the second half with eight points each. Smith would finish with a game best 16 points.
The Tornados gradually chipped away at the margin. Winn scored ten of her 14 in the second half while Worley scored 12 of 14 in the second. Trailing by five with two minutes remaining, Winn made a turn-around jumper and got fouled, converting the three point play to cut North Greenville’s lead to just two.
North Greenville outscored the Tornados 5-2 in the last minute making the final 71-64. The Tornados who shot just 34 percent from the field, had less turnovers than the Crusaders, but were out-rebounded 50-34.
Krisceda Cotton controlled the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds while scoring 11 to achieve the double-double.
The Tornados return to conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Newberry for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
