Asheville, N.C. - The Tornados opened the 2010 spring season on the road, traveling to the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center where they took on Division I UNC Asheville in a nonconference match. Brevard was able to capture several games from the Bulldogs, but ultimately fell on Sunday afternoon, 7-0.
With the loss, Brevard falls to 0-1 on the season, while UNC Asheville improves to 1-1.
In doubles action, Brevard pitted their top combination of Lindsay Hostetter and Claire Dillman against Leslie Smith and Stephanie Schon. The Tornados duo fell after a hard fought match, 8-4. The Tornados second doubles team met the same fate as Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon fell to Devon Cavanaugh and Louise Bottomley, 8-1. Kayley Duval and Merek Slagle also dropped their match, 8-2, against Nicole Schon and Tania Mateva.
In singles play, Smith topped BC's Shaeffer in #1 singles action, 6-1, 6-2, while Hostetter fell to Stephanie Schon in #2 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Dillman fell 6-2, 6-2 in her match to Cavanaugh in #3 singles and Nicole Schon, Bottomly and Brinkley defeated Labus, Duval and Dixon with matching 6-0, 6-0 scores to end the match.
Brevard is back in action on Thursday, February 18th, as the Tornados travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to take on Western Carolina University, with the teams starting play on the courts at 2:30 p.m.
