Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados fell to #22 Carson-Newman Wednesday night, 91,62. Holli Flippo and Samantha Winn led Brevard with 11 a piece, while Shari Bufford led the Eagles with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the double double.
Carson-Newman led by as many as 13 points in the first half. An Alyssa Cutshaw 3-pointer, with eight minutes left in the half, spurred the Tornados on a 14-1 run allowing them to tie the game at the 3:58 mark, when Flippo converted a 3-pointer for the Tornados.
Flippo shot three of four from 3-point range in the first half, while leading the team with 11 first half points. Millie Wharton added eight in the first half, shooting a perfect three of three from the field, including the 3-point shot that gave the Tornados their only lead of the game, 37-36, as time expired in the first half.
The Eagles came out of the intermission out scoring the Tornados 7-2 in the first two minutes of the second half. The Eagles continued to dominate shooting 52 percent from the field in the half and 46 percent on the game.
Carson-Newman led by as many as 29 as Shari Bufford scored 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, and Ashley Kyle scored 10 points and stole the ball three times in the second half alone.
The Tornados shot 36 percent from the field on the game and turned the ball over 26 times to the Eagles’ 15.
The Tornados immediately return to action tomorrow night when St. Andrews travels to Brevard to make up the postponed game from December. Tipoff is a 6:00 p.m.
